60 Years of Press Photography in Israel – Paul Goldman and David Rubinger

In the framework of the celebration for Israel's 60th anniversary in 2008, the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation asked me to bring a photography exhibition, dealing with the subject of Israel’s statehood, to Berlin. I chose a traveling exhibition on the photographer Paul Goldman, which was initially put together by Shlomo Arad for the Eretz Israel Museum in Tel Aviv, and which was complemented by a fine selection of images by David Rubinger along the way.

After refining the image selection and adapting the concept to a German audience with texts and biographical material, the exhibition 60 years of press photography in Israel – Paul Goldman and David Rubinger was shown at the Willy-Brandt-House in Berlin between March 13 and April 20, 2008. Since then, the exhibit has been traveling though Germany under my supervision and was shown in Bonn, Halle, Bremen, Celle and Magdeburg. The final venue took place at the Gasteig in Munich between April 8 and May 5, 2010, and was accompanied by an interdisciplinary cultural program which I conceptualized and supervised. The Israelitische Kultusgemeinde was my partner in realizing this endeavor.

With their great support, the owner of the Goldman archive, Spencer M. Partrich, as well as the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation made it possible, to expose this fine selection of images to a wide audience.
